Know that we haven't always used the term since we've been in disguise! For example, we first used the word "costume." Now cosplay is an international word.
The practice is common everywhere, especially in Japan (the main place where cosplays are created). In this country, cosplayers form a real community and meet regularly. However, the vocabulary of cosplayers is in English, such as the origin of the word "cosplay." The first known cosplayers were from Star Wars and Star Trek.
There are different types of cosplay
Here are the most famous overwatch cosplay for sale:
- Everyday cosplay
Personalize casual clothing with small details that resemble the character. This is a way to "cosplay" in public without looking like an alien.
- Cross-play
"cosplaying" as a character of the opposite sex without changing clothes.
- Furry jumpsuit
"Furry Jumpsuit." This is when you play a hairy character (like a Pokémon). We use meters of synthetic fur for maximum resemblance, which keeps you warm. Usually these cosplays are for sports team mascots.
- A kind of fursuit
It's an animal similar to an oryx, a kind of antelope.
- Gender Bend
The same principle as the cross play, but we wear a cosplay adapted to her gender (example: a girl does the gender of a boy, but with long hair or a skirt instead of pants and vice versa. A bit like if it was a boy character, a girl version, etc.).

- Anthropomorphism
Create humanoids out of anything and everything (books, boxes, controller).
- Body Painting
Is painting your body (literally, yes, yes, with some paint and makeup, don't worry). This is useful if you are "cosplaying" as someone who has a different skin color.
- Body Suit
A tight jumpsuit that can cut down your entire body or a swimsuit to match the characters embodied. Followed by a woman in a bodysuit.
